Gerunds & Infinitives: Formula, Uses and Exercises

Some verbs are followed by the -ing form, some by to + verb, and some by either. : V + V-ing; : V + to V; Both forms, but with different meanings: remember/forget/stop/try + V-ing ≠ + to V. How to use gerunds & infinitives

1. After a preposition → the -ing form

After any preposition (in, on, at, of, about, for...) the -ing form is used

I'm interested in learning Japanese.

2. As the subject → the -ing form

The -ing form can act as the subject of a sentence

Swimming is good exercise.

3. Purpose → to + verb

to + verb expresses purpose (in order to)

I went to the store to buy milk.
