Quick answer

How long an action will have lasted by a point in the future. Affirmative: S + will + have + been + V-ing; Negative: S + will + not + have + been + V-ing; Interrogative: Will + S + have + been + V-ing? Signal words: by, by the time, for + duration, by next year, how long, all day/week/month.

When to use the future perfect continuous

1. How long something will have lasted by a future point

Stresses how long an action will have been going on by a future point.

By next month, I will have been living here for ten years.

2. The cause of a future result

A continuous action running up to a future point that will produce a result.

He will be tired because he will have been travelling all day.

3. Stressing the continuous process

Stresses an activity that has been and will go on until a future point.

By 2030, scientists will have been researching this topic for 20 years.
